Officials Clinic and Training Camp

General Information 2009 -2010

 

 

Intended Participants

  • For individuals who have expressed a desire to officiate basketball in the Region of Peel starting fall 2009  and for those individuals who would like a better knowledge of the rules and the mechanics of officiating (i.e coaches and others).

 

Investment

  • $80.00 to attend the new official’s camp.  An additional cheque for $120.00 payable to PRBABO is applicable at registration (not applicable if candidates do not move forward) (Visit www.peelrefs.com for details.) In the event you do not wish to become a member of the association your cheque for $125.00 will be returned. The $80.00 is not refundable once the clinic begins

Clinic Location & Format

  • Location: Chinguacousy Secondary School   

                             1370 Williams Parkway
                             Brampton, Ontario, L6S 1V3,

 

 

  • Classroom training utilizing (lecture, discussion, demonstration and video)
  • On court demonstration and practice
  • Game situational training and evaluation
  • Set of clinic notes, tests and a examination
  • Online learning and tutorial sessions

 

On Court Training

  • Participants whom attend the clinic will the opportunity to work in a classroom and a basketball scrimmage setting.
  • Start time: 4 pm  End Time: 6 pm

Basketball Scrimmage Setting

    • Objectives
      • Gain some experience officiating
      • Get some feedback and evaluation

Board Status

  • If accepted, your acceptance to the Board is conditional upon passing the NHFS basketball officials exam.  You will have two (2) opportunities to successful complete the exam.  Your performance will be reviewed throughout the officiating season.
  • Selection to the board is dependent on (but not inclusive of) such factors as:
    • Availability
    • Mobility
    • Participation, performance and evaluation at the clinic
    • Performance and evaluation at game situation training

Start Times – High School games start as early as 3:00 pm there are some games earlier during weekdays consisting mostly of day tournaments throughout the year, elementary ball in February/March the day during the week and some private school ball.  The other basketball goes at nighttime and over the weekend.

 

It is expected that new officials are able to make themselves available (2) times per week as a minimum. (i.e 3pm start)

 

Game Fees – Range from $26.00 to $55.00 per game dependant on type of game (duration, level) and level of official.  A percentage of the officials game fee goes are allocated to the board for administration, education and other operational costs.

 

Investment consists of the following:

 

·         Clinic ($75.00)  ($125.00 PRBABO annual membership)

·         Uniform approximately $120.00

o   Black Dress Pants: $25.00 to $40.00

o   Black Socks: $3.00

o   Black Belt – Small Buckle: $10.00

o   Black and Grey Mess Short Sleeve Shirt: $30.00

o   Black and Whistle and Lanyard: $8.00

o   Black Leather Low Cut Rubber Soled Shoes $50.00 and up

·         Annual Board Registration Fee:

o   Local, Provincial and Canadian dues

o   Liability Insurance

o   Rule and Case Book

o   Handbook
